Goverment of India Sued The Deadly Online Game After 2 Continuous Sucides: Blue Whale Challenge

Blue whale game is an internet game based on the nexus of 50 life threatening challenges that end up with committing suicide at the last stage, by the players.

The game is viral in most of the countries since 2013 and the first suicide commitment because of the game came in the year 2015. Then after there are several cases of suicides because of this game, in India the first reported case of suicide because of Online Blue whale game is of a 16-year boy from Kerala who hanged himself at his house, the boy started playing this game in November after which he started hurting himself either by engraving something on hand by compass or poking needles in his arms and  by other ways.

The another case is observed in Mumbai where a 14-year boy jumped from a 7th-floor building in Andheri.

There are 5 reported claimed cases of suicides due to Blue Whale, however, 2 out of the 5 boys have been rescued.

The most important thing to think is, the game administrators are primarily targeting youths, as most of the cases are of the age group amidst 14-24 years.

To prevent further more cases of suicides or any other unpleasant incident in future, the Government of India has asked Facebook, Google, Whatsapp, and others to ban this game and also to remove Blue Whale Challenge’s links from their website.

At New Delhi – Govt. has instructed to Internet majors – Google, Facebook, Instagram, Yahoo, Microsoft and Whatsapp to remove all the links which are related to the dangerous online game Blue Whale Challenge immediately which has led to the suicide of children in India and other countries.

Ministry of Electronics and IT said in a letter on 11th Aug to the Internet majors that, “Instances of children committing suicide while Blue Whale Challenge have been reported in India…You are hereby requested to ensure that any such link of this deadly game in its own name or similar game is immediately removed from your platform”.

The ministry further continued with, ‘an administrator of the deadly game uses social networking sites to invite youths to play this game which gradually leads them to take extreme steps against their life including self-injuring and suicide. Mumbai and West Midnapore have reported deaths linked to this game. Blue Whale Challenge must be reported to the law of enforcement agencies ‘.
