The Incredible Ministry of External Affairs of India

The Ministry External Affairs, under the BJP-led NDA government, is understood to have put in place a mechanism for stricter vigilance of erring officers posted in various Indian diplomatic missions across continents and act fast on complaints and allegations leveled against any diplomat.

The recalling of former envoy to New Zealand Ravi Thapar (1983 batch IFS) was a case in example when MEA headquarters in Delhi acted within days of the incident to liaison with the local government and Indian mission there and take necessary action following allegation of physical harassment by the High Commissioner’s chef. The case will be further investigated while Thapar is posted at headquarters, official sources indicated.

Sources indicated that it not only the IFS posted abroad who are under scanner but also officials from other services including IAS and IPS and junior officers who are posted abroad in India.
