The 25 year young girl had died days after she was rescued from the Hurricane-hit lake in Texas. The news spread like fire all around the world, thereby making the total death count to 50 (as per reports).
Shalini Singh, who was in a critical condition after the rescue, was declared dead last night. She was a student pursuing Masters degree in public health from the Texas A&M University. Originally hailing from Delhi, she came to the US only last month to pursue the two years Masters program after her degree in Dental Surgery from I T S Dental College in Greater Noida.
She will be cremated in Bryan on Tuesday or Wednesday. The news has come as a shock for her family. They just can’t believe their child will never come back.
As per reports, Shalini Singh and Nikhil Bhatia(her friend) were swimming in the lake when a sudden current of water pushed them deeper. According to Bryan Mayor Andrew Nelson, “Bryan Police officers were able to rescue and provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the victims until medics arrived.”
At least 150,000 Indian-Americans live in and around Houston area which have been badly hit by the hurricane. Around 13 million people are battling the “catastrophic” flooding and torrential rains in the storm-ravaged Texas.
The Government is quite active at the spot as well. Teams have been sent for the rescue of the people. The White House has assured the people for their safety. People have been asked to take all the safety precautions.
