And yet another prestigious night for all the musicians and artists of America, the MTV Video Music awards added ‘Best Fight against the System’ as its brand new category with five Winners for the same.
This year’s MTV Awards was more than just an Award-Show. The ending of the show wasn’t a performance, but with a speech of a mother, who communicated to hearts and souls. Susan Bro, whose daughter Heather Heyer was killed this month as she protested the white-supremacist rally that erupted into violence in Charlottesville, Va.
Bro was ostensibly at the VMAs to present the trophy for the best fight against the system. She spoke about a new foundation organized to “help make Heather’s death count,” had been enlisted to demonstrate that at a dark moment in American history. MTV stands squarely with those fighting for progressive values, increasing its level way over than mere entertainment.
Here are the winners for the ‘Best Fight Against the system’ category –
Logic ft. Damian Lemar Hudson – “Black SpiderMan”
The Hamilton Mixtape – “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)” Big Sean – “Light”
Alessia Cara – “Scars To Your Beautiful”
Taboo ft. Shailene Woodley – “Stand Up / Stand N Rock #NoDAPL”
John Legend – “Surefire”
Immediately after Bro’s speech, the show transitioned to a performance by Rod Stewart, who’d somehow persuaded the young electro-funk group DNCE. All in all, along with fun & entertainment, the show reflected some dark facts about America and added up to the effort of eliminating racial discrimination from the country.
