A Turkish Airline plane got stuck and severely damaged in a hail storm while flying over Turkey on Thursday, the Ukrainian pilot saved the lives of the travelers on board with an entirely blind emergency landing.
Captain Alexander Akopov was flying the Airbus A320 over Turkish grounds when the aircraft got hit by an enormous storm and had its windshield break with the hailstones as large as an egg. The pilot was totally blinded by the totalled windscreen. Still he managed to save the lives of 121 travelers and 6 crew members on board using his skills and 30 years of experience.
The hailstones left the passengers in such fear that most of them had lost the expectation of survival. Landing the plane securely in zero visibility is an outstanding achievement that was commended by many.

After landing the pilot stated, “I have been flying for 30 years. Well, did you see the plane landing? Was it okay? The passengers are alive. It is normal. This is our professional reliability. Our locator did not show this weather disaster; this is why it happened. It was hard, but the main thing is that people are alive.”
The pilot needed to avail special permission for landing at the Ataturk Airport despite the fact that it was being closed for different flights because of the climate conditions. Once the plane balanced how to land, the panic travelers breathed out in relief and praised the pilot.
Akopov’s daring was perceived by the Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko, who awarded him the Order of Courage.
