ZTE’s Axon Pro Could have been a Killer Phone But there’s One Major Flaw

ZTE has big aspirations. The Chinese telecommunications company wants to be the next Samsung. But it knows it won’t ever get to the big leagues if all it is known for is cheap budget phones. That’s why the company made the Axon Pro. It’s the company’s first phone “designed in the U.S. for the U.S.,” Jeff Yang, ZTE vice president of technology and partnerships at ZTE USA, boldly announced in July.3-1 The Axon Pro is billed as a premium Android smartphone with all of the latest technology, but with a price that’s lower than other flagship phones. Where iPhones and Galaxy phones can cost $600-plus, Axon Pro is only $450.  Because of the absence of a cheap Nexus last year, we’ve seen a ton of great Android smartphones at the $300 and under price point.3-2Devices like the Asus ZenFone 2 and Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3 are good, but they don’t have the specs of a premium phone. The Axon Pro promises it all: premium design, fast performance, killer cameras and incredible sound. ZTE had the right vision, but unfortunately, it picked the wrong processor, and as a result, the entire phone experience goes right out the window.
